Renewable Energy Specialist

Experience with NGOs based in Cambodia and Vietnam including renewable energy education and geospatial mapping.

I'm a renewable energy specialist with a particular interest in how people interact with energy, whether through community projects, everyday consumption, or emerging technologies.

I graduated from the University of Exeter in 2019 with a degree in Renewable Energy, where my dissertation explored how community-owned renewable energy initiatives can build energy literacy. I later completed a postgraduate certificate in Renewable Energy Engineering, deepening my technical foundation.

After university, I was quickly promoted to management at my existing job at the Post Office in Truro. I noticed that there were opportunities to apply data and machine learning to practical energy problems. I implemented a method for monitoring the shop's electricity use and built a random forest model that detected anomalies in the chillers' consumption patterns, helping to flag potential faults and optimise maintenance.

In 2025 I travelled to Cambodia to set up solar power workshops for students in an educational NGO. I designed an affordable and easily manufacured solar powered lamp for assembly as the culmination of the workshop. When political tensions made it impossible to source electronic components, I trained as an English teacher in Bangkok and developed a lasting connection with Southeast Asia. During this time, I began collaborating remotely with the Lotus Project, a Vietnamese NGO, to build an interactive map for their RDM Index. The project was to build upon their existing idex which measured need for rural electrification and development, and combine with a measure of economic potential. Although the project was eventually paused, I now host the prototype here alongside my other work.

I am also currently developing a machine-learning tool that identifies south-facing roofs and estimates their photovoltaic potential. Version 1 is available on this site, and I'm actively building the training dataset for version 2.

Across all my projects, I'm motivated by practical, accessible applications of renewable energy and data science. I am excited by tools that help communities, NGOs, and individuals better understand and benefit from the energy systems around them.
